Football is back! As training camp begins and the preseason starts, every football fan is optimistic about how their team will do entering the new season. With the NFL season starting in a little more than two weeks, I’m going to predict how the Chiefs will do in this upcoming season.
Week 1 @ Jacksonville Jaguars
To start the season, the Chiefs will be travelling to Jacksonville to face Nick Foles and the Jaguars. Although Jacksonville has made their team better and should win more games than they did last year, I still expect the Chiefs to prevail in this one. There are too many question marks for the Jags at the moment and they still look far from being an elite team like they were in 2017.
Chiefs win 1-0
Week 2 @ Oakland Raiders
The Raiders are currently in the middle of a rebuild. This was shown when they dealt Khalil Mack to the Bears and Amari Cooper to the Dallas Cowboys. However, it is still unclear what the Raiders are trying to do. After cleaning house and getting rid of almost anyone worth anything, they then traded a third and fifth round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers in order to acquire Antonio Brown. They also signed Trent Brown to a four-year deal worth $66 million, making him the highest paid offensive lineman in the NFL and added other character guys like Vontaze Burfict and Richie Incognito.
This dysfunction that the Raiders currently have will make this game easier for the Chiefs. I see this as a comfortable win that will keep the Chiefs undefeated.
Chiefs win 2-0
Week 3 vs Baltimore Ravens
This game marks the home opener for the Chiefs and should be a very difficult one. With QB Lamar Jackson coming to town and Baltimore’s defense usually being elite, this game will be a tough one. However, the Chiefs offense is also strong and I expect it to do enough to win their third game in a row.
Chiefs win 3-0
Week 4 @ Detroit Lions
After the home opener, the Chiefs will then travel to Detroit to face Matt Stafford and the Lions. Detroit is another team in a rebuild which should mark another win for the Chiefs. The hot streak continues.
Chiefs win 4-0
Week 5 vs Indianapolis Colts
After Detroit, the Chiefs will return home to face the Indianapolis Colts in a divisional playoff rematch on Sunday Night Football. Andrew Luck will be looking for revenge in this game but he will not get it as the Chiefs will get their fifth win in a row.
Chiefs win 5-0
Week 6 vs Houston Texans
The Chiefs have a great track record of beating the Texans and I fully expect that to continue in week 6. Although the Texans have a great defense led by JJ Watt while also having one of the best wide receivers in the game in DeAndre Hopkins, I still expect the Chiefs to come out on top in this one.
Chiefs win 6-0
Week 7 @ Denver Broncos
The Chiefs will be travelling to Denver on Thursday night to take on the Broncos. Although the Chiefs will be on a short week, I still expect them to beat a Broncos team that is going through a transitional phase at the moment. While Denver still possess a good defense that isn’t too far from elite, the Chiefs offense will prevail and get their seventh win in a row.
Chiefs win 7-0
Week 8 vs Green Bay Packers
This will be a tough one for the Chiefs. Aaron Rodgers is one of the best quarterbacks in the league which makes planning for him very hard to do. I think the Chiefs defense will have a hard time making big plays and the offense won’t do enough to get the win. The Chiefs will suffer their first loss of the season at home to Green Bay on Sunday Night Football.
Chiefs lose 7-1
Week 9 vs Minnesota Vikings
Kirk Cousins has never had a good record against teams above .500 and considering that is what the Chiefs are, I think they will bounce back from this loss and win against the Vikings.
Chiefs win 8-1
Week 10 @ Tennessee Titans
After taking care of the Vikings, the Chiefs will then travel to Tennessee to take on the Titans. While the Titans did upgrade on certain positions this offseason, I still think that the Chiefs will have enough to defeat them as they will be looking for revenge from the 2017 Wild Card Game.
Chiefs win 9-1
Week 11 @ Los Angeles Chargers
While the Chiefs have had the Chargers number in the past, I do not expect this trend to continue for much longer. Also, given the fact that the Chiefs are on the road in this game, I do not see that working in their favor. Chargers win by a field goal.
Chiefs lose 9-2
Week 13 vs Oakland Raiders
In my opinion, the Raiders are the worst team in the division and possibly one of the worst teams in the league. They added players with a lot of different personalities and I don’t see how that works in the locker room and on the field. The Chiefs will come out of their bye week and win this one via total blowout.
Chiefs win 10-2
Week 14 @ New England Patriots
The AFC Championship rematch that all of Kansas City has waited for happens in week 14. However, it will not be the result that many Chiefs fans want. Kansas City has had trouble with Bill Belichick in the past and I expect that to continue in this game.
Chiefs lose 10-3
Week 15 vs Denver Broncos
By this point in the season, the Broncos will have very slim playoff hopes which makes this game everything for them. Despite that, the Chiefs are far more talented than the Broncos and I expect another divisional win for Kansas City.
Chiefs win 11-3
Week 16 @ Chicago Bears
This game will be a difficult one for the Chiefs for many reasons: on the road, in the cold, and also facing one of the best defensive lines in the league. The Chiefs will have a hard time putting points on the board and I expect the Bears to win a low-scoring affair.
Chiefs lose 11-4
Week 17 vs Los Angeles Chargers
This game should have everything on the line. I fully expect the Chargers to have around 10-12 wins by the time this game rolls around. The good news for the Chiefs is they will have this game at home and I believe that they will win this game, claiming their fourth straight division title and hopefully securing a bye week as well. It may only be good enough for the three seed depending on what happens in the rest of the AFC during the season.
