After recently losing the NL East’s top spot, the Phillies looked to quickly regain what they had lost in their most recent series against division rival and NL East leader, the Atlanta Braves.

After a horrific loss on Friday where the Phillies were leading 7-2 in the seventh inning, the boys captured a series tying win with a hard fought victory ,winning 6-5 against Atlanta on Saturday.

However while some of the Philly faithful might’ve expected the momentum from the promising win on Saturday to carry over to yesterday’s game, they were sorely mistaken.

A game that saw the Braves hit count outweigh the Phils 19-6 did not start or end pretty. Vince Velasquez started the game for the Phils(his first start since May 6th) going a quick 2 and 1/3 inning allowing four runs and four hits forcing Gabe Kapler to plug in lefty call-up Cole Irvin. Irvin’s performance was no improvement.

The slaughtering continued as Josh Donaldson’s homer, his third one in three games, gave the Braves an early 5-0 lead in the third.

Bryce Harper’s lone single in the fifth inning was some sort of consolation cutting the lead to 7-1 but it was too little too late as the Braves piled on runs in the seventh with a two run homer from Tyler Flowers and a solo shot by Ronald Acuna Jr.

All in the all the bloodbath ended with a 15-1 Phillies defeat to make them 2 and a half games behind the Braves for the NL East’s top spot.

The Phils recent skid, although disappointing, can be avenged with a four game series in Washington to face another NL East opponent(the Phillies will play 26 straight games against NL East opponents)
