After a brutal loss at the hands of the Diamondbacks, the next Dustin Pedroia, Scott Kingery, lifted the Phils to a 7-4 win last night at CBP, ending Arizona’s five game winning streak.

Jake “The Snake” Arrieta has been returning to somewhat Cy Young form as of recently and yesterday was no exception. He threw an effective six innings allowing three runs and six hits and earned another win, making him 6-5 on the year.

The first inning started slow as the Rhys Hoskins left two potential runs on base with a inning ending groundout to short. However, in the bottom of the second facing a 3-1 count with runners on first and second and zero outs, Scott Kingery, who had seven home runs in 102 games played last year , knocked his seventh homer of the year with a line drive to the left center stands. Two outs later, Bryce Harper would have a little fun of his own ripping a RBI double down the right field line.

In the bottom of the third, Jay Bruce, a player known for his hitting acumen, prevented a possible run with a remarkable diving catch that was met with chants of “BRUUUUUCEE” from the Philly faithful. He would later supply ANOTHER RBI to give the Phillies a 6-3 advantage in the fifth inning.

The Phillies strong 4-0 grip of the ballgame was no more after Arizona’s Carson Kelly knocked one into right center field to make it a 4-2 game. A sac fly by Escobar cut the game to 4-3.

J.T. Realmuto’s perfectly placed grounder down the left field line provided a much needed cushion as the Phillies took a 5-3 lead in the fifth. Rhys added on to the lead in the sixth with an RBI single that cemented the 7-4 victory.

Hector Neris continued his exemplary pitching as his earned his 14th save in 14 tries– very Brad Lidge-esque numbers.

The Phils will continue the series tonight at 7:05 PM.
