Edmonton Oilers right-winger Alex Chiasson is a plausible candidate to be moved prior to Monday’s Trade Deadline. He’s been very productive — 17 goals and 10 assists in 51 games — and his contract is very cheap ($0.65 million for the season). Considering Chiasson’s a pending UFA and the Oilers are 8 points out of a playoff spot and 13 points behind the 3rd place Vegas Golden Knights, the Oilers should be actively shopping him.
Two teams who could be potential fits for Alex Chiasson include the aforementioned Golden Knights, as well as the red-hot St. Louis Blues.
After Reilly Smith and Alex Tuch, the Golden Knights don’t have much talent in terms of RWs…

Reaves plays a very physical game, which makes him a very valuable asset, but Lindberg has been unspectacular. Chiasson would provide an immediate upgrade over him and would boost the 3rd line offense, subsequently making the Knights a deeper and more versatile team as a whole.
Here’s one deal that could benefits both sides involved…
Vegas Golden Knights trade D Zach Whitecloud and a 2019 4th round pick to the Edmonton Oilers for RW Alex Chiasson
D-man Zach Whitecloud signed as a FA in March of 2018 (per NHL.com) and was ranked as the Golden Knights 5th best prospect by NHL.com at the beginning of the year. His 2018-19 stats (as a 22 year old playing in the AHL) can be seen below…
- Games played: 50
- Points: 21
- Goals: 5
- Assists: 16
Whitecloud, 21, is the oldest of Vegas’ top prospects. He has size at 6-foot-2, 209, and skates, passes and shoots well. But he lacks high-level experience. After two seasons with Virden of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League and two for Bemidji State in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, he needs reps in pro hockey with Chicago of the AHL. The Golden Knights think he will develop well in time.Nicholas J. Cotsonika of NHL.com (at the beginning of the season)
St. Louis Blues
The Blues torrid run of 11 straight victories was snapped by the Montreal Canadiens, but the Blues are still sitting pretty; they are 3rd place in the Central Division, ahead of the Dallas Stars by 4 points. One player who could help them secure a playoff birth down the stretch is forward Alex Chiasson. David Perron, who has been sidelined since mid-January with an upper body injury, and Brayden Schenn’s (upper body — not a long term injury) absence has created a hole at RW. MacKenzie MacEachern has only 4 points in 17 games, and Patrick Maroon has 16 points in 52 contenst. Here’s one package the Blues could conceivably part with in return for Alex Chiasson…
St. Blues trade a a *conditional 2019 3rd round pick and a 2019 5th round pick to the Edmonton Oilers for RW Alex Chiasson
*The 3rd round pick becomes a 2nd round pick if the Blues advance to the Conference Finals (doesn’t matter if they win or lose that series)
In this deal, the Blues would be parting with future assets (picks) in order to bolster their current roster.
